#ALSicebucketchallenge in Korea

I got nominated to do the #ALSicebucketchallenge last week (thank you Ben) and I saw this as a perfect opportunity to use my school as a platform to spread the word and create awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

I did a lesson with the 6th graders at my school and they, surprisingly, knew a lot about ALS already. I like to think it’s because of the good this worldwide phenomena has created in just a couple of weeks. Their English is fairly good, so I there was no real need to translate much. Just to be clear I showed them three videos of Korean celebrities doing the #ALSicebucketchallenge just to make sure all of them knew exactly what was going on.

Obviously I can’t keep all of this fruitful information all to myself and I challenge other Guest English Teachers in Korea to also spread the word at their schools and create awareness. Regardless of whether you’ve been nominated or not. You can find videos of Korean celebrities doing the challenge and talking about it (in English and Korean) here. Then print out the following explanation of ALS in Korean and give it to your students (and others who are interested).
